Steven Hahn

Mr. Hahn joined Dughi, Hewit & Domalewski in October 2016, where his practice focuses on complex-commercial litigation, insurance coverage, government affairs, and employment law.

During that time, Mr. Hahn has been involved in winning several key cases: 

  • Served as local counsel for a Fortune 100 client involved in the national opioid multi-district litigation, working with national counsel in the New Jersey cases that were brought by various counties and municipalities
  • Served as local counsel in an insurance-coverage dispute for a Fortune 100 client that sustained losses as a result of a massive malware cyber-event
  • Was part of the litigation team that successfully defended a bi-state agency in a dispute over alleged unpaid property taxes, with claimed damages exceeding $400 million
  • Was part of the litigation team that won a $20 million settlement on behalf of a state agency in a legal-malpractice action involving negligent tax advice on a massive tax-credit-financing deal
  • Investigated allegations of workplace discrimination and wage-and-hour violations and helped negotiate favorable pre-suit settlements for the defense

Before joining the firm, Mr. Hahn served as a deputy attorney general from 2013 to 2016 at the New Jersey Division of Law, Employment Counseling and Labor Section. Among his responsibilities were representing state agencies in litigation and disputes involving state benefits, employment compliance, unfair labor practices, and contractual grievances. While serving as DAG, Mr. Hahn gained substantial experience litigating in the Office of Administrative Law and in the Appellate Division:

  • Won summary decision in an LAD/Title VII case against the Department of Labor and Workforce Development that involved allegations of age and disability discrimination
  • Won summary decision against a state contractor for program non-compliance, which led to the recovery of over $38,000 in grant funds
  • Won dozens of cases at the Appellate Division representing the Board of Review in disputes over unemployment-insurance benefits
  • Secured the removal of Department of Corrections employees charged with various types of misconduct, such as undue familiarity with inmates, shoplifting, and insubordination
  • Secured the removal of Department of Health employees working at various state hospitals that were charged with patient abuse
  • Successfully defended state pension funds in petitions for accidental and ordinary disability-retirement benefits

Mr. Hahn began his legal career by serving as law clerk to the Honorable Richard S. Rebeck, J.S.C. (ret.), Law Division, in Middlesex County. He is admitted to the practice of law in both New Jersey and New York.
